Arvia Balcony Cabin (5509) Review: Is It Worth Booking or Should You Avoid This Cabin?

We sailed on P & O Cruises Arvia in September 2023 on a 14 night itinerary around the Med, mostly Spain. This review relates to Cabin 5509, which is a GB category balcony cabin located on Deck 5.

We originally booked an inside cabin on a Saver Fare, and were alloacted 11457 a few weeks prior to sailing. We were also invited to bid for an upgrade, which we did. Our bid was successful and we were subsequently allocated Cabin 5509.

Although this is a Balcony Cabin, these cabins are located on Deck 5 and have an enclosed steel balcony. We were a little apprehensive about these cabins prior to boarding, but on arrival were actually pleasantly suprised. Yes, the balcony feels smaller and enclosed; however, we loved feeling so close to the ocean when we were sailing.

The location of the cabin was incredibly convenient, close to the main restaurant, bars and entertainment facilities on Decks 6, 7 and 8 and also super convenient for disembarking in port days, usually Deck 3 or 4 or occasionally Deck 6. This meant no long queues for the lifts on return to the ship!

Overall, the cabin was a good size, although it did feel smaller and darker than a typical balcony cabin.

We wouldn't normally say this, but, AVOID this cabin! It is located directly beneath The 710 Club, which causes noise disruption until after 2am every night. The worst of the noise came from the crew cleaning the venue and the sound of furniture being moved was particularly noisy. After a few days of disturbed sleep, we spoke to reception and they moved us to an alternative cabin.
