Did you know that you can spend the night on board the SS Rotterdam?
When we visited Rotterdam in September 2022, we did just that!
History
SS Rotterdam is the legendary former flagship of the Holland America Line.
Measuring 228 metres in length, 28 metres wide and 51 metres high, it is rich in history and renowned for its cultural-historical value. Known as 'Le Grand Dame', SS Rotterdam was the last great Dutch "ship of state", employing the finest artisans from the Netherlands in her construction and fitting out process.
The ship sailed from 1959 until 2000 and opened its doors as a Hotel in 2010.
Hotel
In 2013, the hotel was sold to Westcord, a Dutch family business with 15 beautiful hotels in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Delft, Leeuwarden, Garderen, Raalte and on the Wadden Islands Vlieland, Terschelling and Ameland.
Where the cabins of the steamship used to be, you now find the 254, 4-star hotel rooms. You can choose from one of six room types with a fifties decor of choice: Original, Manhattan or Bahamas. Each room is unique in shape, décor and color and is located on B Deck, A Deck, Main Deck, Lower Promenade Deck, Boat Deck and Sun Deck.
This is your opportunity to experience how the guests in 1959 experienced the first trip to New York!
Tours of the Ship
During our stay on board, we took advantage of one of the guided tours, which provided an insight into the rich history, facts and exceptional stories from more than sixty years of the famous history of the ship with one of the guided tours. There are daily tours and tours that take place monthly. With the attractive combination tickets you can book a guided tour in combination with an attraction visit in Rotterdam.
Tours start from €12.95 pp for adults and €8pp for Children (aged 4-12).
